Dustin Long was born and raised in a small, southern Mississippi town. In his younger years, he grew up in a great and loving family, doing all the normal things that small town Mississippi families do, like church, sports, family vacations, and festive holidays. He was an unruly child at a young age, and constantly into everything. Quite rambunctious, he probably had the qualifications, but was undiagnosed, for ADD because of his energetic mind and sometimes malicious behavior. Even so, Dustin had a great childhood, with great parents, and an amazing family.
All that seemed to change for him around the age of eleven. What seemed so great was left broken and beyond his control. He felt everything was his fault, and he carried and harnessed those feelings into his formative years, which lead to angst and trouble with the law. These feelings and incidents progressed, leading to further despair and into drug addiction, and then a prison sentence. Twenty years of pain and poor choices, Dustin was feeling he was nearing the end, the end of life. Finding himself coming to a crossroads, he knew he was either going to die in this poor state of living, or he would end up back in prison.
After years of drug addiction, in 2013, Dustin found himself a wandering madman, homeless, and feeling broken, and like everything and everyone he encountered, he would hurt or destroy. That is what he had done for years, and he felt he had reached the point of no return, believing himself better off dead.
Dustin recalls, “On a cold, and rainy, early February morning, Jesus found me. I was crying out on the railroad tracks, for my mom, my dad, and for failed relationships. All the things I thought I needed, were in my tears and pleas for God to help me. That is when Jesus reached down took me out of the pit I was in, and set my feet on solid ground.”
Spending time at a faith-based rehabilitation center in 2013, Dustin started singing worship music and has now been involved with worship/music ministry for 12 years. He also visits faith-based rehab facilities and ministers through music. “Writing songs and ministering to people through music, God has given me a purpose and a voice to bring others closer to Him!” says Dustin, “I am living a dream and prayer that is being guided and strengthened by God Himself. I never really lived, until He gave me purpose and a passion to live for Him!” Dustin is happily married to his wife Shannon, and all that was lost has been restored with his wonderful family.
Dustin Long is a Christian singer/songwriter living in Mobile Alabama. He is currently the worship leader and an Associate Pastor at Revive Church Mobile, and in 2023 he was led to leave his job and become a full-time minister and Associate Pastor of Revive ChurchMobile, where he continues writing and producing Christian and worship music and has become a Christian Recording artist.
